Coolest places to hang out in Salobreña and Motril (Costa Tropical)

Did you know Motril and Salobreña offer a bunch of really cool places to hang out, have drinks, work from or have tapas.

Often people are still surprised when I tell them I am living my nomadic lifestyle off the Costa Tropical, but after checking out these places below, you´ll understand what I mean 😉

La Roka: best place to be in Salobreña´s old town

My absolute favorite bar in Salobreña is La Roka. Based almost next to the castle, in the historic town of Salobreña, this bar has absolutely amazing views over the ocean and the bays of Almuñecar. I definitely recommend coming here around sunset (even make a reservation if you want to make sure you are first line for the sunset). But even better, their tapas are seriously fantastic (I always ask for a vegetarian one, best veggie tapas around) as is their normal food of the menu. They often do live music, cultural gatherings and readings as well. The only tiny downside, driving up the old town and finding a place to park might be a bit challenging, so I recommend you park down, close to the post office of Salobreña, and walk up.

Enjoing Playa Granada at it´s best: Bonobo Beach bar

My favorite chiringuito (beach bar) is at Playa Granada, the beach just off of Motril and is called Bonobo Beach. During the summer every day, during the winter in the weekends: I can be found here. The atmosphere is really relaxed with wooden tables and coloured shutters. The drinks and cocktails are great and if you come in the winter you can sit in your shirt at the beach, looking at the waves and at the snowy mountains.

Foodtruck fever: 18 nudos

Though a surf club, this is the hang-out spot for all water sport minded people at the Costa Tropical and basically the place where I come every day. Literally. This year they also opened a food-truck: a converted city bus that now serves drinks and food, which you can then eat at one of the tables on the grass or hanging at a bar, overlooking the surfers at this surfspot. During summer time they do lots of life concerts as well.

Coffee at it´s best in Motril at CafeTotal

In Motril city center, my favorite place to go, meet up with friends and work from is Cafetotal. Their coffee´s are great, with different varieties and origins and all organic. Every day they mention which one is the coffee of the day (of course there is Colombian coffee as well! yeay!). Their cakes and deserts are fantastic as well, I definitely recommend their carrot cake. For juice they proudly represent the fruits from the area: amongst others, chirimoya and mango. Their wifi works fast and when you come before 16.30 it´s a really nice place to work. Oh, and I always boy my own coffee here as well, which they can then freshly grind for you if needed.

Tapas is the word at Stilo Costa

In Motril, this square fills entirely up with young and energetic locals, especially in the weekends and summers. And it´s easy to understand why: the drinks come with a free tapas which you can choose yourself from a list with over 40 different varieties (perfect for vegetarians like me, so many to choose from!). This one goes until past midnight (if you want to make sure you have a table, come before 8pm, which is when the Spaniards slowly start arriving).

Hoyo 19: lounge and good food at Playa Granada

This is definitely the ´cool, see and want to be seen´ place of Playa Granada. With a super relaxed lounge vibe and nice background music, this is where the Costa Tropical goes to for a nice night out during the summer.
